Unlocking the ShadowCuff can be done using two different methods: An Officer Key or a Software Command.
Unlocking Methods
Officer Key
An Officer Key can be clipped onto the ShadowCuff to manually unlock the device. This Officer Key clips onto the ShadowCuff on the BRM side of the device.
- The site in which the Officer Key is connected can be found by locating the three circles in the shape of a triangle. These are referred to as the connection points.
- Connect the Officer Key ensuring to line up the three connection points on the key with the three connection points on the ShadowCuff.
- An audible sound will be heard and the ShadowCuff will then unlock.

An Officer Key is not included in the ShadowCuff kit but can be purchased separately.
Software Command
A software command can be sent remotely through ShadowtrackONE platform to unlock the ShadowCuff without the need of an Officer Key.
- Navigate to the enrollee's profile in which you want to unlock the ShadowCuff.
- Locate the "Hardware" tab within the enrollee's profile and select the "Device" sub-tab.
- Select the "Actions" button in the "Device Communication" section.
- Select "Unlock".
- A window will pop-up and prompt the user to enter a reason for unlocking the ShadowCuff. This pop-up also states that if the ShadowCuff is not communicating with the server, the unlock command will timeout after 3 minutes.
- Once the software command is received by the ShadowCuff an audible sound will be heard and the ShadowCuff will then unlock.
Officer Keys are universal and can unlock any device unless they have been explicitly disabled. If an Officer Key is lost or misplaced, a firmware update can be deployed to the ShadowCuffs to prevent the missing key from unlocking any devices.
