ShadowCuff Vibrations and LEDs
ShadowCuff has the ability to vibrate alerting the enrollee that the battery has reached a critical level. A command can also be manually sent to the ShadowCuff device via the ShadowtrackONE platform. Also, three lights can be seen on the device located next to the hinge. These lights can be green or red, indicating different things during the installation and removal process. These are explained below.
Vibrations
- Low Battery (Battery Critical) - When the ShadowCuff battery level reaches 10%, a two-pulse vibration will occur on the device. This vibration will repeat every 10 minutes until the device is connected to a charger.
- Software Command - When sending a vibration alert through the ShadowtrackONE platform, a three-pulse vibration will occur on the device.
LED Lights
When installing and removing the ShadowCuff device, a series of blinking lights and audible sounds will occur. The scenarios listed below explain the meaning of each sequence.
Installation:
- Battery Test - Top LED blinks green - confirming power is provided from the BRX (Battery) and the cuff is closed; then LED turns solid green.
- Top LED rapidly blinks green for at least 5 seconds – ShadowCuff was not closed all the way and it shuts down. Wait for the LED to turn off and try again.
- Lock Closing - Middle LED blinks green - lock is closing, continue pushing sides together. A sound made while lock is trying to close. The sound will stop and the LED will turn solid green when the lock is complete.
- Top and Middle LED’s blink red - ShadowCuff was not closed in time. Unlock sequence begins because the lock is likely “half-closed”, so it needs to be re-opened. Once opened, wait for the LEDs to turn off and try again.
- Orientation Test - Bottom LED blinks green - validating remaining steps (orientation, SIM Card, no BRX or fiber optic issues). The ShadowCuff may vibrate 5 short pulses to indicate orientation is uncertain.

The three connection points on the BRX side of the device must properly configured for the ShadowCuff to properly lock. The "triangle" should be pointing up, with one connection point at the top and two below.
- Middle LED blinks red and ShadowCuff vibrates 2 long pulses - The ShadowCuff has been installed upside down. Wait 10 seconds for the cuff to start unlocking and open the cuff. Once the LEDs have turned off, re-install in correct orientation.
- Top and bottom LEDs solid red - Detected hardware issue with BRX or fiber optics. Wait for the cuff to unlock or attach KEY to unlock instantly.
- Top and bottom LEDs blink red and ShadowCuff vibrates long pulses - No SIM detected. Wait for the cuff to unlock or attach KEY to unlock instantly. Contact Shadowtrack.
- Installation Complete - ALL LEDs are solid green - successful installation, ShadowCuff emits cascading up audio tone.
Removal:
- Connection and Factor Check - Bottom LED blinks green – connection and factor check is in progress.
- If the bottom LED blinks red the unlock has been aborted or has failed. Remove the KEY, wait a few seconds, connect the KEY again or send the unlock command.
- If the bottom LED continues to blink red it may indicate an unauthorized KEY is being used. (An unauthorized key is an Officer Key that has been disabled.)
- Lock Opening - Bottom LED solid green Middle LED blinks green, audio tone is repeating – Authentication is complete, unlock sequence has started.
- Bottom LED blinks red, middle LED blinks red - lock has failed to open (timed out). The ShadowCuff will re-lock. Once complete, try KEY/Remote Unlock again.
- Opening Complete - Bottom LED solid green, middle LED solid green, top LED blinks green, and continuous/constant audio tone - Locks are open; pull sides apart to open the cuff.
- All LED’S blink red - ShadowCuff was not open in time. Cuff restarts the installation sequence, wait until the sequence is complete before attempting to open the cuff again
