Charging and Storing the ShadowCuff
Charging the ShadowCuff
- The ShadowCuff must be closed in order for it to charge
- The BRX side contains the primary batteries and is charged via the BRM side when a charger is attached, which is why the primary batteries cannot be charged unless the device is closed
- Connect the Mobile Charger (MCH) or the Wired Charger (WCH) to the connection point on the BRM side of the ShadowCuff.
- The connection point has three circles in the shape of a triangle.
- Ensure the pins on the MCH or WCH line up with the connection point on the ShadowCuff
- Once device is fully charged, for optimal battery performance and battery life, the charger should be removed. Do not leave a charger on a bracelet charging for more than 24 hours.
- When a ShadowCuff battery has dropped to 0%, the backup battery will engage. This allows the device to continue communicating for roughly 5 hours before the backup is depleted. An orange warning symbol will display within the platform in place of the battery icon when this has engaged.
A charger should never be connected to an open ShadowCuff. When this happens, the BRM assumes the device is attempting to close and lock with the BRX, but it cannot complete the process. As a result, the BRM repeatedly attempts to re-close every 10 seconds, potentially causing a large amount of data being transmitted all at once when the BRM is powered on.
Storing the ShadowCuff
When not in use, the ShadowCuff should always be left unlocked (open). For example, after charging a device that is not immediately being placed on someone, ensure it is opened. Leaving the ShadowCuff closed and active will cause it to continue communicating with the ShadowtrackONE Platform unnecessarily.
Below is a breakdown of how battery performance is affected once the ShadowCuff is unlocked:
Unlocking the ShadowCuff
-
BRM Model:
After being unlocked, the BRM enters a deep sleep mode within a few minutes to preserve its backup battery. In this mode, it discharges at an extremely low rate, less than 0.1% per day, making it ideal for long-term storage.
-
BRX Model:
The BRX remains fully active for approximately 48 hours after being unlocked, with a discharge rate of around 2% per day. After this period, the device automatically powers down, allowing for extended storage with minimal battery drain.
